Title: This years halibut stoppers
Post by: TongassFisher on January 17, 2019, 09:03:18 PM
It's winter in Alaska, cold and dark!

I've been on a reel kick lately and have my Halibut reel fleet set out and mostly serviced.

I can fish three halibut setups at a time off my boat without much issue.

This year I'll be trying out an Avet HX single speed I picked up off AKFisher and will be excited to see how it compares to the penn 4/0 and 6/0 sized reels I've been using in the past.

My 113hn Baja is going into its second year without being serviced. I should probably get after that but my side plates have started to swell and I had a hell of a time getting the rings on the side plates last time I serviced it. I had to sand down the side plates to compensate for the swelling. It's showwing some ring sideplate seperation so maybe I ride it out and replace the reel when it gives up the ghost.

Plan to run a 114h my grandfather game me along with a Chinese 114h2 strung with cheap 100lbs 8 strand braid.

Lastly I need to pull apart and service this lefty 114h I scored off Chris. Then string it with line. My brother comes up and insists on having a lefty reel.

Just thought I'd share.

Post up your go to reels for this year if you have time. I'm interested to see what you guys fish.

Just looked up new Baja sideplates. $50 buys a new set. That's probably what I'll do at the end of this season.
