I hear the R229-5 isn't that easy to get...

I do not have that information, but could get it.
The problem, he's out of town and will get back to me in a few days.

Newel Nut might know, he's Nut about Newell🙂.

I'll post what I have on the other models, this way we could see if they're accurate:
Blackies: ..:70s & 80s
P series: ....mid to late 80s
G series: ...early 80s to early 90s
No Letters: early90s to mid 90s
C series: ....mid 90s to late 90s
S series: ....:90s to the end

Sal, just in case you were thinking about using that beauty, which I doubt that you were, don't!

It's too perfect to scratch up and deserves a prominent place in your display.

Great find!

Thanks guys, it is very nice.
Randy, I thank you for your advice, that is exactly what  I will be doing with it.
It will probably go in the center of my display.
I'm glad you guys like it.

Best,

Sal

Don't see many like that come up often
I think in your timeline they made another run of P series aluminum frames at the end. A lot of times when you see a NIB P series it's in the new style box. there were a few V series too I think, a V522 Maybe?

My buddy got back to me.
He believed the R serie came in late 2005 and into 2006-2007.
Carl Newell did have colors around 1998, but those were flat...not as shiny as the one above.

Thanks for that info Sal. Carl sure did make some very nice lookin reels! I think the Newells would continue to sale today if someone would have taken over productions.

Someone did and is making kits today.
Every once in a while they appear on eBay for $400-$500 Per set
And that's just for Two plates and A spool.
I hear the quality isn't the same, but can't confirm, since I haven't checked them out.
There are a lot Older Newell circulating still and they're not going cheap.
The little guy above could go as high as $500 depending on how bad someone needs to have it.
That is not what I paid for it.
The ones I have are all new with boxes, I thing I have 13 in different colors.

I heard shops couldn't get rid of the colored ones, they only wanted black.
I wish I was there at that time.

There are a few members here that are well informed on Newell and I'm not sure why they're keeping quiet.
These are new to me and I'm only putting out information I have gained.

I bought my R229 in 2010 for Fall Black Fishing to match a custom rod built  by Billy 40. Rod & reel are in storage at the present time.

I also had a NEW R338 that I sold & still kick my self for that.

That reel color is outstanding.  I have a red 220, but it is much more of a matte finish.  Nice find! Nice to know of another Newell addict

Sal,

This is what you need to hang on the wall.
