Title: Stuck "house" from broken IAR in sideplate.
Post by: Drisse on November 20, 2020, 06:47:40 AM
Hello! I got an Shimano Tekota 300LC in pieces in a plasticbag. Seems like it could be a reel again. But the IAR is broken and the "house" or what to call it is stuck in the sideplate. Any idea what to try to get it out? I knocked it out around with a small screwdriver. There's a tiny edge at the bottom of the "house" that you can get a little hold on with the screwdriver. But its quite stuck.

Reply #36 any help?  Add a good soak and heat perhaps.
Cheers
Steve

This happens too often with the small (300, 500, and 600) Tekotas; the large ones (700 and 800) have a shoulder that you can use to tap out the IAR bearing. What I end up doing too often is use a Dremel to cut a notch so I can see the IAR shoulder and tap tout. The cut is under the star so you can't see it once the reel is back together. I put a dab of Cal's Grease on the cut to reduce amount of saltwater that gets to the cut. I hate to do this, but it works and I have yet to see any long run complications, even on reels I'm seeing for the 3rd or 4th season.

Akfish, sounds like a simple way. Do you mean just a small cut like my mark on the picture?

Yes. That's where I cut. Just cut a quarter inch or so, just enough to reveal the IAR.

i save all the small worn down cutting wheels for the dremel.  these small diameter wheels are good for getting into small diameter spots like the inside of the metal case.  there you can cut slots on opposite sides of the metal case, then support the plastic housing with a ratchet socket that is just a tad larger than the housing, take a sharpened punch and hammer out the the metal case.  odds are 50/50 - removing the metal case versus breaking the plastic housing.  good luck!   :-\
