You did good on that one !  I think the knurled post was to make the "thumb brake" hold better on the post.

Hi There,
I believe that the reel is a 1939 Long Beach 65 - it has the logo style used in 1939/40 - as mentioned previously. That handle style - the first year Penn used that football shaped grip, and the large counterweight, are also correct for a 1939 reel. The drilled spool, with the hole near the center of the arbor, is also correct for 1939.
