Title: AVET SX Bearing Issue????
Post by: togntime on January 24, 2012, 04:15:22 PM
Hey guys! New to the site. Seems awesome! I picked up an SX last year and it has a couple of issues. First, the freespool seemed to randomly be tight. I would have to pay line out, with 6oz of lead. That issue seemed to clear itself. Now, it seems to have a bearing issue. It feels horrible and makes an audible noise while cranking. That issue also will clear itself. Taking it apart now. Any ideas?

It sounds like you have a damaged or broken pinion bearing.

Sorry for the rookie question, but which is the pinion bearing?

Its the bearing inside the reel on the right side plate.

I believe the washer between the handle and the sideplate was installed in the wrong direction. It seems there was play allowed between the crank gear and spool gear. Spool was loose, creating a slipping. Have everything put back together, and seems to work fine.
