Title: Shimano Torium 30HG Drag?
Post by: steelhead_killer on April 17, 2022, 07:24:50 PM
Reel is only producing 18lbs of max drag with a full spool.  Any ideas?  Specs say it should go to 40 lbs.  Customer is asking for it to go to at least 25Lbs.  Open to all ideas on this one.

shimano lies.  they just flat out lie.  that's a tiny little reel.  normally you would expect 25 pounds of drag from an international 16.  with this one, i'm surprised that you get 18.  that much pressure would likely damage the gears.

The reputation here is that those reels have weak drags.

I have an older Torium, I upgraded the AR pawl, drag washers and it gets acceptable drag for my needs, but I never measured it.

Shimano specified max drag for a Torium 30HGA is 24lb. Where'd they get 40 from?

Yeah, both the Trinidad and Torium HG 16/20/30 are rated at 24# max drag, not 40#. So 18# sounds right to me.
