Title: Penn 113h smooth drag gears
Post by: CI_Seawolf on July 05, 2022, 03:50:49 PM
Hi, I have a Penn 113h that has a narrow tib kit, it needs the 4:1 gears though.  Do the 4:1 gear kits that smooth drag lists on their website work?  Any other upgrades that would make the reel better?

yes they work, any 113h gear set will work with any  113h frame "kit". grease the drag washers and off you go or you can add :

- ss gear sleave
- ss yoke (you add that with a ss gear set)
- ss dog(s)
- double dog if you want (threads on this)
- handle upgrade

That about does it

Cheers:

how far above the body of the right side plate are the drag washers supposed to stack?
i just serviced a 113H with Accurate frame, and one HT-100 + one steel washer are sticking out
of the side plate housing; replaced two HT-100 drag washers;

the drag washer stack was stuck together when i got the reel.

i can tighten down the star & engage the drag to 15 lbs, but it gets real tight; thoughts?

As long as the last eared washer engages the gear and the top keyed washer clears the sideplate you are good.

"Tight" like in the star is hard to turn?  If so a fine tooth gearslieve and star will help some.
