Had the pleasure of the Master Chief joining me for a morning bite. He musta brung his lucky rabbits foot, cause he caught some nice fish. Here's a sample
All kidding aside there was a couple Ron reeled in that were pushing 20#. We can only keep hatchery kings, and these big dudes were wild so away they went. We did eventually get our 3 hatchery kings.
Here's Ron's biggest king ever. It put up a good fight
Thanks for posting Ted!
The Three Amigos are back at it with another Excellent Adventure. Single action reels certainly make for a new experience! I know everyone wants picks, but with as fast as Steve and Ted find fish there isn't a lot of time for "composition."
The Man
Well if Ron can use a single action reel and mot complain then Peaches should be able to do so also !! Nice work guys on the CHINOOK ;D
Cheers:
Todd
Today was rinse lather and repeat.
All 3 fish were 12-15#, and Ron's was the biggest of the 3. He must have a lucky wabbit foot hiding somewhere
Nice, another month and he can show off his YT skills!
I keep thinking about a yellowtail with a single action reel.
Talk about busted knuckles!
The Man
You can try just about anything once!

I resemble that remark! I'll get you back in a month.
Peaches
Nice springs. Good eaten size. Our chinook fishing has slowed down right now.Hope it picks up. I'm good with a single action reel and I would dread trying a yellow tail on one !!

Hmm... with regards to YTs on a single-speed:
Some years ago I took this:

Ohana'd it into this:

And pulled up this 48-lb Guadalupe model:

A heckuva fight, but it didn't beat me up hardly at all, so I'm sure all you big strong guys could single-speed 'em in with the greatest of ease (e.g. Porthos with his Monofils!) 8)

Big difference between single speed and single action!

I would love to do that. I mean, people catch them on fly gear often, I don't see much of a difference.
Today was the third day in a row we limited. I swear Ted and Steve can smell the fish!
The Man
Good fishing you guys are having.
You can catch those fish with a mooching reel but you would have a long day and be sore catching a few let alone trying to fill the boat.

I can attest to that! Why these Canuck fishermen are so into self-flagellation is beyond me. Must be the brain freeze. ;D ;D
Cold preserves brain function . The heat of the South ........ I'm not so sure..... >:D
I'll see you later this month and we can continue the debate. :d

Think I'll ask Alan to assign us to the same room. I kinda like being the smartest and best looking guy in the room. It happens so seldom.

I hear ya dude, that's why I room with Ron, he makes me look good.
According to Roger Penske —-

Good fishing guys!

We all know you don't have that experience when I'm around! And according to Mark, that means you're in Third!

The Man
The master chief strikes again, but his 13# king was crushed by Steve's 17#
I can't tell you all what a beautiful fish Steve's King was.
The Man
Steve and Ron couldn't make it today for the last day in the best area, so I figured I'd give it a shot going solo. Water was flat and overcast made for nice day.
I ran for about 37 miles and fished for 10 minutes, then ran back home 37 miles with a nice fat 17# hen.
This coulda been you Ron !!
2nd pic I was running at 30knts !!
Nice one Ted! And conditions look beautiful; your boat rides great anyway but I am guessing that morning it was a 30 knot feather bed!! Dare I ask what you hooked it on, was it one of your customized spoons? - john
Wow flat !, it was windy hear yesterday. Nice way to close it out.

Hi John. The spot I'm fishing is same area we fished last summer. It is known for being the largest needlefish beds in the PNW. The best lures to use will be trying to mimmick that bait. Keeping the gear very close to bottom is key. 5' off bottom will get me nuttin
Here's a couple that produce, but for the "coho killer" the hook is way too small for kings, so I put a 4/0 siwash hook on it. The big hook stops the spoon from wiggling, so I give it a special bend so it will flutter. I use a long leader with the coho killer when fishing kings. Hot spot flasher and 60-70" leader.
The bucktail fly works well on bottom or suspended. Usually 35-40" behind a hot spot flasher
