Great work, compadre. Everyone of your builds, I see where your skill continues refine. Kon-Tiki was one of my favorite reads as a kid.

Very nice, i like the concept. Loosely related I was thinking about that kayak gaff you made some time back, as an idea for my buddy's now broken rod.

I just made a Gaff for a Friend from a broken rod around 3 weeks ago, I never though on show it here because its way too basic and simple, basically I just dremel out the hoods of the reelseat and build a grip there, the rod already had its name (I restored that rod for him, he runs a fishing charter) took out the guides, cut the blank and installed the gaff hook

haha, nice compliment amigo, thanks

not gonna lie, but I already experienced something similar, few years ago I built a custom rod with Mexican flag colors and the owner liked the rod that much that he decided to not use the rod any longer and put it on a place on his living room along with his personal loved trophies  8)  ^-^

Great job, on those gaffs! How are you securing the "hook" to the blank, before you wrap it?

well, the gaff hook has a bent on the end so, I made a hole on the bamboo pole to insert that part, that way the hook wont slip out when you pull a fish, I also like put a pretty decent amount of glue epoxy all the way along the gaff hook and then the cord, so far so good.

hey amigo, I ordered some calcutta bamboo poles which are supposedly the ones recommended to be used for fishing Gaffs because they have the walls of the pole 3x or more thicker than other species of bamboo.

I thought so.  Calcutta is hard to find these days but there is a guy in Huntington Beach that sells it.  When I was a kid in South Texas every bait or tackle shop would have calcutta cane poles for sale.

Good thing that little storm is supposed to fizzle out.
