As I was servicing a friend JM pe6 I noticed that when the preset is all the way back the reel still delivers over 18 pounds of drag at strike and 25 in full. This is way more than my other pe reels and something is clearly wrong. I have checked everything there is about the preset, lever etc. And I can not find anything wrong. Only logical explenation to me would be that the spool shaft may be a few mm short... Or the metal washers are placed some mm too close to the cf washers... There is a thread about this, and it seems like the problem is shared.

As you can see kilsong (the importer of pe reels) mentiones something about a screw... I guess it has to be the spool shaft screw.... Any inputs, experiences on this?
Best of regards. Thor
find a thin washer somewhere along the spool shaft and pull it out. that should give you a little more room.
thank you for replying Alan. There is no other way than getting a new washer?
i mean find a thin metal shim washer and try pulling it out.
I am sorry, the reel mechanics terminology... Is not my best field... I really did not understand that. Pull out what? Where should I place the washer?
there might be too many washers along the spool shaft. if you could remove one, it might solve your problem.
thor,
Is it fixed yet?
If not I have a few things to check (looked at the schematics).
Check to make sure the drag pressure plates are on the bushings correctly (the square key should be in the hole in the pressure plates).
Check to make sure the cam lines up with the groves while the lever is in the freespool position. There is a hex key where the orientaion can be any one of 6 positions. Only 2 of these positions will work.
If the reel is set up correctly the drag adjustment knob will 'pop' up a bit when the lever is moved out of freespool to free spool. If it does not pop up then the cam is not oriented correctly.
Hope one of these works for you.
Jim N.
@Alan, I will check this out once I get back home tomorrow. Thank you.
@Jim, the reel and drag cam, lever etc. is in perfect function. the groove fit perfectly and it pops out when the lever is engaged... But there is a possibility that the drag plates are not properly aligned with the bushngs. Thank you. Will report tomorrow if there is any progress.
Thank you guys. I removed a tiny washer from the left side spoolshaft. Drag is now at 1 pound at strike, when lever is backed all the way back!
in free, can you wiggle the spool around and get better freespool?
Yes I could, but not that much. You were right Alan. I removed a tiny washer and the reel is now perfect. ;D
