Has anyone ever cut their own gears or machined their own reels? I'd love to see some photos and have a chat as I think making your own reel would be so satisfying and far more reliable than some of the newer offshore jigging stuff these days.
There's a few on here, hopefully someone can post a link,
The Doc- Robert Jansenn's self-built min1ature ABU is amazing...it's on here somewhere. MHC and Rothmar (Mike and Chris) have made all sorts of things for Penns. Many others, but only Doc made gears as I'm aware.
The work that Tom, the owner of Cortez Conversions, does —-
Is off the charts...
Tom is a Master Machinist who also understands fishing.
Tom is a treasure on our site that we need to recognize as someone to not take for granted —- just because he is not a noisy guy!
He is like Carl Newell of Newell reel fame, and Pete Lee of Lee-Pro fame.
Best, Fred
Robert Jansenn, that's the one I was Thinking of, an incredible tiny reel.
Some very talented machinist on here, that's for sure
Definitely not overlooking Tom, since I have a couple dozen of his reels :)
Thanks guys. Any links to the threads?
