I picked up a few old reels one has south bend model 1201, but has shakespear model 1924 on reel seat.
Did someone add a part or was this something that happened in the past.

If I remember right way back when, Shaky had a deal to make reels for SB, and SB made some rods for Shaky. If both companies had reels coming off the same production line, it would not be surprising for a mix-up to occur as happened here.

I'm pretty sure the original foot got damaged and someone just switched it out with what ever they could find that fit. It happens all the time. Like Frank said, Shakespeare made a lot of South Bend's reels so that's an easy interchange/exchange.
