Title: New spool grease question
Post by: MOwenz on December 13, 2023, 01:52:46 AM
Hi Everyone, I have zero experience working on reels. I just received a new spool for a Penn Spinfisher VI 3500. My old spool was scuffed up during an incident I don't want to talk about.

Do I need to grease the drag on this spool or does it come greased? If it's determined I should grease it, I have some Cals drag grease. Do I need to get the Penn grease off with a solvent or can I just wipe off the washers and add the Cals?

Thanks

The drags should come pre-greased pretty well. There's no benefit on a reel of that size to clean the grease off for cals.

One more thing, I also have some blue Penn Reel Grease, if that makes a difference in what you recommend.

Glad you are on the site, MO.  Lots to learn here.
