Title: Spinning Reel Drag
Post by: Nick20722 on March 09, 2012, 10:02:57 PM
Quick question on a spinning reel drag my buddy has.  His reel will give drag when you clamp down tight, but it no longer clicks when you turn the knob on the top.  It also doesn't click when the drag goes out.  I'm thinking his drag washers may be worn out.  He does have drag but the range is very small...it goes from almost no drag at all to a lot of drag very fast. Think I'm on the right track with the washers?  I took the drag stack out and they were all very smooth-no texture to them at all.  Thanks!

Oh yeah, the reel is a Shimano BTR-250 from around 1986 or so.  Thanks.

Hi, most spinners have a clicker device on the underside of the spool that works with a small spring. If the spring comes off or breaks, the spool will not click when line is being pulled off under drag. Replacing the spring should probably help that. I can add a pic if it would help.

Others are more qualified to respond about your drags. Sounds like they are probably long overdue for a replacement.

Good thread here for you: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=994.0
