I got a couple of Daiwa Saltiga 30HA in for repair and service. I know that they have MagSeal bearings and some of the reels have broken bearings that needs to be replaced. I thought I could replace them with regular SS bearings, but some of the MagSeal bearings seem to have odd sizes. I got the following measurements with a digital caliper. Inner x outer x width (mm)
Driveshaft bottom: 5x9x3mm
Pinion: 9,93x15x4mm without the plastic bushing on the inner race 9,16x15x4mm with plastic bushing
Driveshaft: 7,91x14x4mm
Left spoolbearing in sideplate:4x11x4mm
Right spoolbearing: 6x12x4mm
So the pinion and driveshaftbearing are odd sizes or could 10x15x4mm and skip the plastic bushing work for the pinion ? Is 7,91x14x4mm supposed to be 8x14x4mm ? Normally with the digital caliper I get for ex. 7,96 or higher when its 8mm.
Any ideas ? :)
it's the calipers. the same thing happens with mine. the inside dimensions are never quite right. metric bearing are almost always in whole millimeters, and rarely half.
I recently finished a 300 Lexa, had to destroy the plastic bush to get the bearing out. The recess is standard size, but the shaft is undersized by a poofteenth such that a standard bearing doesn't fit. I can only assume that they size the spool shaft for one of their odd sized magbearings so they can commonize the shaft/spools over several models. You have to replace the collar otherwise it will not fit the shaft unfortunately.
Thanks Alan 🙂
Thanks for info ReelClean :)
