Title: Penn 309 gear
Post by: john2244 on March 12, 2012, 12:10:06 AM
I noticed the main gear on a Penn 309 is the same main gear on a Jigmaster 500.  Do you think a Jigmaster pinion gear will fit on a Penn 309 spool shaft ??

it might fit, but the pinion gears are different.

They do have the same main gear but the pinions are different and not interchangeable.

OK, thanks for the reply.  I was hoping I could move the gear ratio on my 309 up to 4.0:1

There's a nice Penn Jigmaster 500 for sale on the Forum today, 4:1 Gear ratio out of the box. ;)

Any time you reduce the size of one gear, you must enlarge the size of the other, and it will never be a tooth for tooth swap.  It can be done on VERY FEW Penns.

What is the OD and bore diameter of the original 13-85 and a 13-140 pinion gear from a Penn 210?
