Title: Shakespeare President II Question
Post by: MACflyer on March 13, 2024, 11:41:54 PM
Does the Shakespeare President II 1980 bait-casting reel have anti-reverse? Thanks

Yes, but it is the ABU-style anti-reverse dog with the little copper leaves on side.  Like an old Ambassadeur, sometimes you have to adjust the tension by pinching the leaves together to make the dog grab the ratchet and engage.

OK thanks OC1. Not familiar with this reel, and just bought it in a lot of rods and reels. Looks like I'll be getting familiar now haha.

Found anti-reverse dog wedged in another part of the reel. Reinstalled, adjusted copper leaves, and working fine. Thanks again oc1.

I have a 1982, really nice reels. This was my first baitcaster, I think I paid 30 bucks for it new back in the early 80's. I went through a lot of line and a  lot of cuss words that first summer I used it. After that, it was bliss.
