Northern California, high speed trolling is all the rage here these days with 200 lb bluefin being landed on the regular now.
There are several reels I've been looking at and wanted the take from people here from the perspective of those who work on them
Accurate ATD, Avet EX, Makaira Gold or SE or Penn International. Alan Tani has spoken highly of the Makaira back when it was introduced.
What are the thoughts of the hivemind here.
Those are all good reels. The Accurate may require a bit more maintenance but is truly outstanding. These days I have switched over to the new Penn International VI reels and love them -- but I never had a complaint about my Avets or Accurates. If money matters, I think the Avets are a little less expensive than the other on your most.
The standard gold Makaira's are great for trolling. Save the SEa's for bait. Same with the International VIS vs VISX.
I advise you to be patient for about 40 days, the new okuma Makaira 50 W SEA should be released on the market in mid-May, which has many improvements.
