Title: Proper care of vintage fiberglass rods???
Post by: wailua boy on April 09, 2024, 12:00:16 AM
Aloha Ohana. What does everyone do to maintain their older fiberglass rods? I have a few I love and fish with in saltwater and freshwater fairly regularly. Aside from rinsing and drying after use, what can I do to protect these rods? Thanks

Keep them somewhere cool out of the sun, don't leave them leaning against anything for long periods of time.  If you want to keep them shiny I've used mop-n-glow floor wax, wipe them down with some on a rag. Of course rinsing is important

Once they're clean a light wipe on - wipe off coat of Penetrol is a great, non weighted, protectant.

I give my rods a quick shine with car wax every year - works to help clear off fresh water when rinsing after using the rod.
