Title: Daiwa Megaforce Twitchin 100TSHL
Post by: retiredandfishing on April 23, 2024, 10:45:42 PM
Got one of these reels in the shop the other day.  Spool was locked up.  Took it apart and found the twichin feature (who's gear is connected to the level wind and the gear shaft) would not allow the spool to rotate. I cannot figure out how this feature is supposed to release and let the spool spin.  It is direct geared with no mechanism for release.  Reel works fine if I remove the twitchin gear.  Anyone have experience with these.

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,
This tutorial may be of assistance.

The twitch gear actuates through the main gear and also turns the handle.
The spool shouldn't spin freely (other than in retrieve) unless the thumb bar is depressed, ie in freespool.
If the spool is locked up, it may instead be related to the pinion gear not disengaging fully from the spool shaft pins or the pinion bearing being corroded/locked up, which wouldn't be unusual.
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck, Justin

The pinion was not disengaging from the pinion bearing and locking up the bearing.  However, the customer decided he did not want that twitch feature and doesn't use it so I took out the gear that drives it and all is well.  Thanks for the info
