Title: Ocean City Long Key 110, 115, 140
Post by: Bryan on June 12, 2024, 06:56:11 PM
I have an old Long Key No.115. It is the 500yd model but all three models share the same parts... The only difference is spool width.
When I got the reel is was not functioning properly and was stopped up with dried up grease and dirt.

I got it cleaned and lubed and it seems to work fine except when you pull the freespool lever, the gears stick and you have to wiggle the handle to get it to free up. Then it spins fine. It was cleaned down to shiny metal and greased with Lucas Marine.

If anyone has schematics for this series or even a picture of the properly assembled internals it would be appreciated.

Not familiar with the O.C. 115. This clutch design is from a probably 1920's O.C. Free Spool. The bridge plate moves the main gear to engage the pinion, as opposed to the pinion moving in or out to engage the spool. If this is the case, I'd check to see if the bridge plate is moving far enough away from the pinion and if not maybe it's installed improperly(the bridge).
Note: pinion removed for better view.

The long key has two versions for clutch engagement , the lever and the billy club .  Which one do you have .
G fish is showing you the lever type .  In your other post is the schematic for billy club style reels .    Here is the list of ocean city schematics .

In it's day, they called that a knock-down lever.  The handle blade would hit it and knock it closed.

Thanks for the responses. It's the billy club model.
I'm also looking for an oil/bushing cap for the handle side of the reel. The caps from the 6/0, 606, 6061 also fit it, if anyone has a spare laying around, or a parts reel they want to sell
