A diawa seapower i think. Wow what a great reel! Easy to use and lightweight! Rod and reel weighed less than a tuna set up! As you know LP's weigh a ton and basically suck for whoever has to transport them! Yes the LP's have faster retrieval rates but we were only in 475'
GREAT FISH!
Congrats, nice fish, good memories, thanks for posting cheers Don.
What kind of fish is that rebait1?
Never seen one before.
It is the east coast version of what we call whitefish out here on the west coast. The SoCal long rangers get them all the time, and we catch them when fishing deep drop in the Sea of Cortez. I don't think that our species get as large. But we get the coolest looking one - the golden-eyed, AKA Conejo (rabbit).
Explained well here:

Golden Tile fish
Yummm!!! That there's some of the tastiest fish on the planet. Congrats! :d
I'm guessing Mexican White Fish are the Eastern Pacific's version of Tile Fish.
If so I have caught 100's of those on the hook when the tuna fishing was slow.

That is a sweet fish. Thank goodness for electric reels.
