Title: Narrowed 113H
Post by: Bill B on June 27, 2024, 01:42:31 AM
OK, I finally bit the bullet.  Randy Pauly had a deal I couldn't refuse. He had a Tiburon P40N at a price I couldn't pass up.  He called it an 8 out of 10, but we all know how he grades his stuff  ;).  Anyway I had an extra 113HLW doing nothing and waiting to donate its parts to this project. The P40N is the same size as a Baja Special. Now just need to source an few more parts and it will be ready for October.  Thank you Randy, You Rock!  Bill

Which do you like better Bill, the Baja or the new reel?

I've got both but haven't fished either, (and probably never will).

I have to say the Baja is everything a 113H should be. I like the 113H with the slower gear ratio.  The Baja is 4:1 and the 113H will stay 3.25:1.  The BS is topless and the 113H has a top bar.

In the end both reels have their place.  IMO the BS will excell at casting (topless and faster) and the 113H dropper loop and winching reef donkeys.  Everything i will be doing to the 113H the BS already has.  I will know more after the October 8 day. Sorry if I couldn't make a better decision.

I read through the Oct 8 day thread and still don't know how your 113s faired. Curious what your plan was for each. What line was loaded and what rods they were mounted on. I haven't yet hot rodded my 113H or used my BS yet.
Thanks,
Jeff

The Baja Spl was loaded with a 50# over 80# braid.  One night we were horsing around catching whatever would bite while on anchor.  I hooked a small shark was was dragging it in.  Unfortunately the rod that I had rewrapped decided to break.  IIRC it was an old Califonian rod.  The 113H stayed home that trip.  Even then, 9 rigs were taken.  Bill
