I have been to Nathan's on Coney island & Pink's in L.A. which are great of course! Our local hot dog restaurant is Nu Way(1916). With these "Gut Rockets" you might have to develop a taste for, but for me it's hard to eat only 3 ...The best description I can come up with is a red hot dog with this greasy chili made with fine ground beef & a tint of Cumin similar to Taco meat, onions, & mustard on a steamed bun. Listerine can't touch these guys & you will probably taste them for 3 days when your not on the "turlet" (Archie Bunker) The repercussions are worth it & you always go back for more. I am sure many of us will be grilling out July 4th & I do love a 50% burnt dawg, but Nu Way a.k.a. "Gut Rocket" is my favorite.

Sadly I live in a hot dog desert. One of the few things I miss about LA is pinks
My favorite hot dog by a mile is Hebrew national, some chili, cheese and onion. Done
Martinsville.
Memories of Sabrett Hotdogs of when I lived in NYC. That was the brand sold from the street vendors. Nothing beats the NY hotdogs with brown mustard and sauerkraut and/or mustard and onions. The onions had a sweet and sour flavor. I live in San Mateo, CA now and the closest to those hotdogs is Caspers Hotdogs. Dominick
If I buy them at a store my go to is Caspers.
But we have a hot dot place near by, Weiner Works, which smokes any store bought dog!
Steve
3 words from my home town of Melbourne, FL.
Mustard's Last Stand.
Nothing compares.
Nathan's or Hebrew National from the store and if I am in Houston, James Coney Island.
hebrew nationals!!!!!! ;D
Bar-S cheap dogs, Heinz Dill relish, brown mustard, thin sliced fresh tomatoes, Rainbow Buns, Walla-Walla Sweet diced onions.
BBQ'd with black lines.
If anyone knew what most hot dogs were made of —- they might not eat them. They are delicious. But I don't care. We are already stocked and have company coming up for dogs🌭🌭, potato salad, deviled eggs, 4 kinds of chips, strawberry shortcake 🍓🍓, and watermelon🍉🍉.
Best, Fred
I must add, catfish like red hotdogs,
served on a circle hook :fish

This!
Hebrew National for me too!
Our first health inspector at our bar&grill was a inspector at a hot dog plant for a couple years. He said he never ate another hot dog after working at that hot dog making plant
Pink's is good, but my favorite was The Weiner Factory on Ventura Blvd.in Sherman Oaks, CA. Sadly closed now. Cupid's, also in the San Fernando Valley, has good hot dogs, as does the Vienna Beef stand in the meatpacking district in Vernon, CA.
Probably just me, but I don't see anything wrong with eating various animal parts put into hotdogs or sausage meats. The chemicals and excessive amounts of fat and salt is another thing, though.
Porkey's on the Island offers an easy 4 menu choice of Hawaiian influenced hotdog meals. But only once in awhile for me.

Kaspers ! In Oakland since 1930... crazy building huh ? A Cali only institution. Grabbed a couple of dogs there in the mid 80s and had the pleasure of meeting the original owner/ founder's son who ran the joint at the time (he was very old at that time)... I always go for the original, yellow mustard, onions, tomatoes and salt. I can still remember the sound and feel the snap of that dog when I took a bite.
Cool
We normally get all "beef", but I think the mystery meat dawgs actually taste better...last time
We got ballpark brand they were very salty. My fav store brand is Nathan's(have that snap)
Then Hebrew National.
After Church today down in Fresno, we stopped by a 100+ year old hardware store to pick up some needed stuff.
Fresno Ag.
They were giving away free hotdogs, Wrangler hats, stickers, and a lot of other stuff —- plus 10% off everything across the board.
That was our lunch before hitting Trader Joe's and SaveMart.
Heat spell hitting California on the 4th and continuing for a while.
Predicted 112° in Fresno on the 4th.
Generally 20° cooler up here.
Best, Fred
My favorite comes from Costco
LA Street Dogs or Mexican Bacon Wrapped Dogs are delicious. I just can't eat more than one or too often
Fred can't beat a free dawg, our church used to give out 2000 every halo ween as an alternative to Halloween I was volunteered as one of the cooks...I have a big pizza spatula that I could get 10 off the grill at a time lots of burning eyes manning that grill but it was worth it seeing all the neighborhood children get to eat that sometimes go to bed hungry!
Ted we only have Sam's here their 1/4 lb Dawgs are a meal :al
BTW I boil my hotdogs. Grilling them makes them dry and too salty. Let's hear it for boiling verses grilling. Dominick
I like them 2 ways, chili, cheese and onion in a bun or if I'm at home split them down the middle fried in a skillet then on rye bread toast with some mustard
Boiled, grilled or skillet is fine with me but to pick one I'd go on the bbq
Schweigerts are big in MN. But, I eat most any.
Frank

I only boil them when I don't feel like tending the grill. They get a little soggy when boiled. I only eat hot dogs around 4 or 5 times a year, though.
Store bought? Hebrew National or Costco Polish dogs.
My absolute favorite, though, are moose meat jalapeno cheese dogs made by Indian Valley Meats just south of Anchorage. We generally have about 40 lbs made each fall, and between what we eat and what we give away, we seldom have more than one or two packages left when it's time to make more.
Grilled or pan fried, sauerkraut, sauteed onions, diced tomatoes, yellow pepper rings, chili, brown mustard, a big hoagy roll ... the possibilities are endless, and delicious. Sliced into a pasta salad, jambalaya, or even mac and cheese, it's all good.
OK. Now I'm headed out to the freezer to retrieve a package or two.
Maters on hawt dawgs? Berling a hawt dawg? Ya'll are a bit strange. Maybe this site isn't for me after all. My BIL eats mayo onna dawg. I quit talking to him.
Wursts unt sausages are a whole nother aminal, but I like a bunn length Ball Park, Oscar, or Carolina Packer grilled or butterflied onna cast iron skillet. Nathan's are good. May grab some at the booji Pubix where opened up near us. Kraut and Dijon, or Carolina all-the-way: mustard, chili, slaw and onions.

There's Publix in NC now? That used to just be a Florida thing. I remembered seeing them in GA and I was surprised.
The "pub sub" is what they're best known for locally.
I haven't eaten a tube steak in over 50 years. Really. And even when I ate meat, I tried to steer clear of hot dogs...

Yep. At least four I know of, and I'd imagine Charlotte has them. And now Wegmans....booji hell. The transplants around here literally camped out the night before Wedgies opened to get a burger at a grocery store...like it was for UNC - Dook tix. They lost they dam mind. At least that kept them off the water and away from me. Just got back from the sto with kielbasa, smoked beef sausage, and bunn-length Ballparks on BOGO so I got some fam packs.
Sheridan, on point: split-griddled on rye with kraut, dijon, and melted Swiss is also on point; I typically do that with a brat or kielbasa. It's money. As a matter of fact, sir, I Do happen to have some Gray Poop-on.
Coworker was retired A.F. used to boil dogs at work in beer using a 40 cup coffee pot.
It was a monthly thing we looked forward to.He put on a spread with slaw, chili, chips, pickles for $2/head all u can eat,if someone
Tried to get over 2 dogs he would say that's all you can eat for $2 ....
as kids, all we ever got were oscar meyer. eddie and i would shove a chopstick into one end and hold it over the stove, then grab a piece of wonder bread with a little mustard.
I also have to add ...Go Dawgs!!!
Franks - Nathan's & brown mustard
Weiner - Good ol Oscar Meyer & yellow mustard or chili/cheese.
Honorable mention-the lowly Coney Dog from A&W & a root beer in an ice cold mug.
*But TBH dogs are low hanging fruit in the world of grab & go grub, I'll take a decent cheesesteak over them any day of the week.
I'll have a hamburger instead.
Todd
Better than a dawg :d

LOL, As a kid and ironically unsupervised during summer break, we would "cook oscar myer wieners" on the stove top with forks. Corn tortillas and some ketchup were the go to things to eat. Come to think of it, unless we were eating sandwiches, it was always corn tortillas.
Ahh the simplicity of youth.
Sabret, Boars Head, Nathans and Hebrew National. Are my top Favs. Topped with Chili, Cheese, Sauerkraut and Raw Onions.
:d
