Title: Fin nor question.
Post by: Tmurphdawg on July 13, 2024, 02:42:38 AM
Hey everyone, I just got an older fin nor 4 that was pretty beat up. I cleaned it and broke it down and besides some wear it appears that all the parts are there. I used a schematic. The problem is the reel will not reel at all when you crank the handle. It is almost like it's in free spool and the drag lever does nothing. Any thoughts? I posted a picture of the reel hoping someone would know the reel. Thanks

Either you put something together wrong when reassembling the reel ?? Or you have to tighten the drags knurled knob at top of drag lever. Some times depending on the position of the drag assemblies inner parts when put back together you have to turn that drag knob an awful lot to get it back where drag is actually touching it's opposing surface !!!  Turning that knurled knob moves the drag closer very very very slowly.

Any pictures of the innards when you had it apart ??   John Taylor

Yup. What John said... the range of movement in the drag components -the preset worm screw, the lever, the cam, the drag progression, all of it- is very, very small.

Ok I got the drag to work and the reel will now reel in when you turn the handle. It seems that turning the drag lever knob worked (thanks guys). The reel is a little stiff but seems to be getting better as I work it. The problem now is that the warning click won't work when I finally get drag. Maybe something is worn? It works when I turn the knob to the left but then the drag won't work. I'm getting closer. Any ideas? Thanks guys

Does anyone know how thick the drag washer is supposed to be? It might be shot and if it is is there any advice on replacing it?
