Title: Penn 16 Vsx questions
Post by: Nmurguia on July 16, 2024, 03:54:40 AM
Picked up a very nice 16vsx that's loaded with a 100lb braid and a tiburon handle.  It's in great condition.

I plan to jog for bluefin with it and troll on my skiff.

Couple questions:

Is there a tutorial on how to degrease and oil the bearings that make the free spool better?

Do I need a special tool to remove the handle?

Do all Penn Vsx's need to be greased prior to initially using?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated

I love my Penn 16vsx. It'll do the job.
Check out Alan's 50VSX Tutorial in this section.   It's same model and similar enough to get you through opening up the reel, not only clean the bearings but helps you give your VSX the full treatment.
Yes you will need drag cover wrench, to remove the handle. check out mystic

Yes I would clean and then grease the drags with Cals grease as Alan shows in his tutorial
Good luck!
