Title: Lucas Red & Tacky OK For Gears Parts Other Than Spools and Bearings?

Or is this a grease that deteriorates in the presence of salt water? Need something good and sticky for the reel innards.  Thanks.

It does have rust inhibitors as an additive.  Sounds like it will be really thick.  Bill

The best greases are the ones that are easy to remove the next time you service it. Just about any grease will work in a reel. If it's "grease" and not "oil" it's sticky enough. In all cases a super thin layer is enough.

If you already have that one put a dab on a mirror and see what it takes to remove it. See if there's a chemical you're comfortable using that dissolves it.
