Hello friends
I have a chance to choose one of old Fin-Nor reels at very low cost from my friend.
One of them is 7.5/O 2-Speed and another one is 6/O Wide 2-Speed.
Both of them have nearly the same line capacity.
But the 7.5/O has 2.5/1-1 ratio and weight 3.7 kg and the 6/O Wide has 3.5/2-1 ratio and weight 2.2 kg.
What reel should I select.
Which one is more rare and which one is better to use?
Thanks
What a wonderful dilemma!
I'm all about square reels, eg as tall as they are wide, so it'd be the 7.5 every day of the week for me.
However, the weight and ratios probably make the 6 the better, more useable choice...
Winning either way I'd say!
Enjoy, Justin
the 6/0 2 speed is worth more but I like the 7 1/2 better!! John Taylor
The irony is that the rarer the reel (if in good condition) the less you probably will want to use it, to avoid it getting scratched up and losing value.
as a practical fishing tool - if you are fishing in Thai and nearby waters eg Burma Banks, the 6/0 two speed is a better choice. It's more convenient in terms of size (still a pretty heavy reel if you are mostly fishing in Thai waters, but there are a few jobs it would be suited for), and the low gear will make a difference when hooked to a big fish. But to use it to the fullest you need to be familiar with changing gears (on a classic Fin Nor it's not as straightforward as pressing a button) so that you can confidently do it when hooked up on a big fish.
If you are going to fish with it and target plus size fish narrow and 1:1 is what I would use.
If I'm fishing with one I like the 7.5, the cube shape is more comfortable to me, wide reels tend to wobble more when reeling. I'd think the IPT would be similar with a taller spool of the 7.5 even with the lower gear
Value wise I have no idea.
Can you buy them both?
I don't think you can go wrong with either one for fishing
With the taper on the spool of the 7.5, the 6/0 looks like it'd hold more line. On big fish the ratios of the 7.5 should give more cranking power. If trolling the weight difference isn't relevant.
