Greetings all. And thanks to Alan Tani for the acceptance to the collective.

I'm looking to wade back into some fishing, both ocean and fresh water. I used to fish a lot back a short 40 years ago. Most of this fishing was done between Malibu and Ventura, but did go out once on a Coronado islands charter. My freshwater fishing was mostly for largemouth bass at Lake Casitas (Biggest 10 lbs.) as well as some local ponds. I generally fished with a buddy who once owned a bass boat, as well as an ocean party boat. He always outfished me.  :al

I spent a lot more years in the ocean than on the ocean. It started with surfing, which led to windsurfing. But now my old back is telling me to put those things aside. And while I do remember that  being on a boat can beat you up pretty good, I'm hoping that I'll be able to withstand the stresses, and maybe even catch some fish. I'm pretty fit, but my back is an unavoidable, and ever present, issue. Fingers crossed.

Before I gear up with much of all of the technologically amazing, but very pricey, new gear, I'll go out on a couple of trips with my old gear. The first 3/4-1 day trip may be coming up in a week or two, and be out of Ventura or Santa Barbara.

I've started servicing my fishing reels with the help of a gent named Dennis on youtube. Some here may know of him, 2nd Chance Tackle is his channel. Back in the late nineties I took up the hobby of watch repair. Happily, there are a lot of similarities in reel repair. But, of course, the parts are much bigger than in mechanical watches. It's a bit greasier, but not as much working on cars, and it should be easier on the back.

I look forward to learning about reels and reel-work here. It looks like a great site, and I'm seeing that Alan Tani is a "Reel" legend. I was referred to the site by a gentleman who sold me a Penn nut wrench. What a difference that thing makes. The first reel I started to service was my Penn 113HLW that I bought new in the eighties and only fished once. The handle nut on that bugger required the better leverage and purchase of that wrench (Designed by Mr. Tani, if I'm not mistaken.).

Anyway, enough about me. Maybe even too much, but now it's out there. Cheers, all.
