Title: Newer Shimano Torium 30HG dog
Post by: mackeyjr122 on August 22, 2024, 04:57:00 AM
Do you know if Shimano has corrected the dog problem in the Torium 30 silver series reels.  I just ordered the newer Torium 30HG black model. I don't have the reel yet but was wondering if I have to buy the same dog and spring upgrade kit for the newer Torium 30HG. Thanks for any info

It should stills be a leaf spring dog. The old trinidad DC dog and spring have been gone for a long time.

Just my 2c but there's no real point to that upgrade any more. It was useful at a time when people were pushing the original Toriums way beyond their rated drag. The new Torium 30 is rated to 24lb of drag, if you need more than that then you're using the wrong reel.

Thank you for that insight. I will leave it as intended.  The toriums I had in the past was used on the boat for smaller tunas and the handle used to hit me on the back of my hand when the fish started running. I am planning to use it for shore casting for bonefish or jacks. Thank you
