Steady rest, couple wraps electric tape and the hillbilly made it work. Enjoy yer Labor Day weekend .............it aint dumb if it works! My 1939 atlas I brought home in baskets. Rebuilt every nut, bolt and screw. Dandy for this kinda stuff.
I suspect you've done something really clever, and I'm glad you decided to share it.
But if I'm being honest, I can't figure out what it is.
Nice use of your lathe.
looks like a pretty expensive rod wrapper/ grip sander ^-^ ^-^
:al.
Well done, Mark —-
Great skills and results!
Best, Fred

Nothing really genius, just worked up the nuts to actually try chucking up a rod using the center rest to work down rod butts and grips to size I prefer. Been doing it all this time by hand. ;)
Interesting thing on this rod was ... its an older Mitchell I really like ... the rod butt is exactly what I have been doing using aluminum tubing. Under the foam of course. Pleasant surprise. From the reel seat back was aluminum tubing
You have nice things sir.
