Salt fishing opportunities here in Washington state are very restricted and highly monitored, often with in season changes and closures due to catch rates.
That being said, it's a must to get while the getting is good. It's now prime time for Westport albacore, and inner Puget sound, September is prime time for coho salmon migrating in from the ocean. Got to hop on my favorite albacore charter after they had a few clients cancel on a trip. Got back home from that trip and next morning was chasing local coho that came in early after 10 days of heavy rain. Got limits every day for 9 strait days. Today I slept in to get a few things done around the house.
Nice to have fish stacking up in the freezer, and more yet to come before it all ends in early October.
For live bait albacore, I took my ice blue Cortez 99 jigmaster filled with 50# 8 strand, and 25# flouro top shot, mounted on Shimano tvc66mh. It performed flawlessly and brought a bunch of longfin to gaff. Hope to get another shot at albacore this month. Also need to rearrange my freezer to make room for more salmon and longfin. Life is good !!
:0)
Lots of good eating there! And lots of fun, getting it!
Way to go Ted!!!!! = john
Happiness is a full freezer !

Making hay while the sun shines
Gee thats great Ted, good you have plenty of fish, n you wont have to give that little fish mouth to mouth, cheers Don.
Nice! Albies and Silvers. Summertime in the PNW, you got me dreaming.
Way to go Ted. Dominick
It's great to see that you're getting your fair share of time on the water Ted, and doing lots of catching.
Whether it's running your boat or fishing on a charter, you're always a highliner.
Washington State is our best lower 48 opportunity for Coho, from what I hear.
Yes Gregg, it was a bumper year for coho. Most areas are hatchery coho only, but a few areas inside Puget sound had some opportunity to keep wild coho as well. Ended up with 42 coho on my catch record cards. Done fishing till next summer. Busy now canning albacore and smoking salmon.
Here's a couple 12# coho we caught just a few days ago on last open day for the best area. Also pic of latest batch of smoked salmon
That smoked salmon looks TASTY AF!
thanks for the pictures, nice to have a face with the name, glad you caught plenty, cheers Don.
Looks like you had a great and successful season Ted! Thanks for sharing your story and photos.
Looking Good Ted!
Canning tuna every day. Day 4 today and still hardly made a dent in albacore loins in my freezer. Also taking advantage of nice weather, and smoking 2 batches of salmon today. Here's batch #1 from today. Lip smacking good
Looks like Bacon Ted!
I'm canning the second of what I think will be 5 rounds from our Albacore trip as I type.
Using Wayne's Portugues recipe this round.
Steve
Ted, you make a picture look like it has got to taste terrific. Good work. Dominick

Dommie nailed it. I'd eat that pic of salmon onna bagel.
Good to see you loading up while you can
In SoCal it used to be like the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano, around July albacore would show up in huge all you want numbers. That dried up then it was central California for albacore. Haven't seen one in years now, maybe some day?
One of the most fun fish to catch and the best tuna to eat for me anyway
Hopefully one day I'll get up there and yank on a few
Busy canning salmon and albacore. My wife would like her freezer space back, so I am obliging her. Happy wife, happy life
Also thought I'd add a pic of sunrise from 50 miles offshore on my August trip. Overall a great summer here in the PNW !!
I'm still eating the last batch. Thanks again for those. Dominick
Impressive Ted!
I still have around 60-pint jars to do from our trip.

this looks pretty yummy
Ted, do you think something similar can be made with tuna?
I still have a nice loin of fresh tuna on my freezer
Salmon is not a native fish in Mexico and I dont like the price and texture on the Salmon fillets from Costco. :-\
so, its either Yellowtail or tuna for the smoker

Your loss Alejandro!
If they ever legalize Salmon fishing here again, I plan on smoking a bunch.

I know its my Loss.
I had a friend that used to fish every year in Alaska for salmon and halibut, he normally gave me few Salmon fillets from his trips, so, I know what it taste the wild salmon Vs farm raised.
Alejandro, I agree there is a difference!
Here in the east coast peoples republix of Taxachusetts the Massholes have a daily and personal possession limit, so if the freezer gets too full you may be a criminal. :-[ (sigh)
Fishing bad.....Fishermen pigs are overfishing species
Fishing good....Regulators are geniuses :al
Regulators ignore my rabbit cycle theory. This year lots of rabbits around. Next year see a few foxes, not so many rabbits. Ad infinium
PS. Nice job Ted :d
