Title: 712 Green Spool

This is my 1st 712 with the plastic spool.I have an aluminum one for it also, but kinda like the look, matches my
710.The 712 has always been one of my many favorites ::) I lubed it added a new bearing,soooo smooth!

Nice looking reel.  I agree, the greenies tend to be real smooth.

I have 4 now & one 712z.The brass emblem is one thing that I like.2 of mine fell off just by touching them.I had to reglue this
One as well,Shoegoo works great.Many on eBay are missing emblems that are otherwise fine reels.

Those plastic spools were cursed.  When loaded with monofilament they tended to crack after fighting a large fish.

I once tried to counterfeit the medallion with very limited success.  It was described here somewhere.

guy on ebay has some Alcedo emblems he made that look nice, I wish someone would do it for Penn.I cleaned this emblem with white vinegar/baking soda then a brass dremel brush in a pin vise, the vinegar/baking soda did most of the work

Brasso is an effective cleaner for brass, bronze and other metals.
After cleaning, a light coat of clear coat keeps them shiny.

I read some claim the aluminum spool started in 74' or 75'? I saw one with a box on eBay with an Albertson's price tag of $19.95,$127.23 in our economy 2024.I guess pretty pricey back then, don't know I was  11-12 years old playing with GI Joes....
