Title: fishing yesterday
Post by: wallacewt on March 26, 2012, 08:03:24 AM
fished again sunday 25/3/12.flat seas,slight breeze,water temp 23.7c,depth 40m.20miles out.
tried to find new ground,unsucessful.
2 snapper,1 samson,
used 975ld,15k braid,40lb fluoro leader, new spiral rod i built this week.
what a battle with the sambo.no gimble on the rod
only a rubber cap.if somebody tells you its ok to use a rubber, dont listen
put a gimble on.
cheers

Ive never had a bad day of fishing, but I've heard it's better than a good day at work..... Sometimes we don't catch anything , but that doesn't make it a bad day... I like to think of it as a learning experience.

rod
ive worked these spiral rods out for o/h reels
find a spinning rod with the action, recommended b/s line you want.
stripping guide leave where it is.
cut away the next guide but leave the underbinding untouched.bind on the same guide at 90 deg;
rotate all the rest 180deg;including the tip.bind on same as before.
it may vary a little but you get the idea.
backbone, reel seat, grips gimble are already done.
2 piece rods are even simpler.
you can fish the rod now to the max without the line touching the blank.
with the softer rods i use i have doubled the drag pressure against the
fish using the same gear.i dont like the line touching the blank
hope this is helpful

Sounds like a great design Wallace.
If you've got pics, I can load 'em on Photobucket and send you back the links - email me if you like.
Cheers mate, Justin
