Wallace Carney of Mitchell Reel Museum has passed away I was just informed.I am not sure if he was a member,but I know many of us visited the site in the past when it was available.

Let me tell you about my friend Wallace Carney. I first spoke with Wallace in 2000 about a shared passion regarding Mitchell Reels and all things Garcia. Here was a man whom had a vision to unite the entire enthusiast fishing community around the globe. Wallace created the Mitchell Reel Museum and Mitchell Mates forum so collectors had an avenue to share their knowledge along with photos of so many beautiful reels. His research of Carpano and Pon's, Mitchell Reels both of France along with the Garcia Fishing Tackle Corporation in the United States these thorough studies of these reels has set a foundation for other collectors worldwide. Wallace's published book "The Mitchell Classic 300 Spinning Reel" is the culmination of his research and is widely accepted as the standard that other authors would follow. Wallace was a major contributor and co-author of other books published on Mitchell Reels. Lately we also share Mitchell reel knowledge here on Facebook that was started by him.
It is with great sadness I share the news of the passing of Wallace Carney. A United States Marine (Vietnam) which he was so proud to have served his country. An American hero whom also loved his country so dearly. If it was not for Wallace most of us may have never connected together to share our beloved reels. Wallace's passing will leave a large void in our community, we will carry on sharing the history, knowledge and experiences from this platform and thru the museum website. Nothing on the MRM website that he started.
I did not know Wallace Carney personally. But, I really enjoyed the "old version" of the Mitchel Reel Museum, and the numerous videos he participated in on Mitchell reels. I felt like the man had found his niche in the fishing equipment world, and always seemed very enthusiastic about sharing his feelings and what he knew. It is a sad thing for me to hear of his passing.
