Title: Cal Sheets and his son talk about there company
Post by: 54bullseye on October 13, 2024, 10:21:27 PM
I don't know if any of you follow the Bad Company fishing videos on you tube I really enjoy them. I found this one interesting in that they have Cal Sheets work on there big 130 Shimano reels. Towards the end of video he goes out with the Bad co. crew marlin fishing and talks about his company. I found it interesting hope someone else does !!

Eric Sheets was more than helpful getting my International II 1:1 low speed 50SW to 50S  conversion done. It took less than 2 weeks turnaround for cutting off the stock low gear from the 50S shaft and pressing on their 1:1 gear.

Thanks, John!!

I have met and talked with Cal & his son at the Fred Hall Shows.

They set the standard for blueprinting reels.

Real gentlemen.

Excellent video!

Best, Fred

A great shame they no longer do two-speed conversions.  I had an old 50W done years ago; alas, my 80 never will.

Yes indeed, John, I did.
It was very nicely filmed and paced.

(I am a little leery of youtube nowadays. There is a lot of good stuff of course, but also so much garbage. Podcasts too, like the podcast a few years ago that Cal and Eric guested. Utterly horrible. )

The Azores look absolutely beautiful.
Patudo has several times suggested I should visit Madeira; I imagine they are similar.

I have only met Cal a couple of times. Both times we got along very nicely, and I hope opportunity to meet again will arise someday.

Having now watched the video in its entirety, they seem to be discussing what seem like fairly major changes (if I understand it right, they were talking about moving the position of the handle from about 6 o'clock, if you were looking straight at the right side of the reel, to about 9 o'clock).  I wonder whether the mechanical advantage/greater ease of use gained is worth the cost and trouble.  That said, as can be seen in the other video where the owner of the operation brings together most of his toys, those folks live in a bit of a different universe...

Awesome!!!! I've watched it at least 4 times. I'm glad I subscribed to the Bad Company crew. You learn a lot about the offshore world
