Title: My Penn Jigmaster 500L Build.
Post by: mackeyjr122 on November 05, 2024, 12:19:29 AM
Hello everyone. I just bought a new Penn 500L and was planning to upgrade some parts to make it better. Well I went a little overboard and bought a Super Jigmaster Tiburon frame and spool kit for it. I put the spool and frame kit on and it looked awesome (picture). Then I read about beefing up the brakes but it said that you should change some internal parts to match the more powerful brake upgrade. So I ordered all stainless steel for the entire guts of this reel. Then I thought I might as well get the Cortez sideplates to handle the load now. Ordered the new handle and star drag too. I then realized that I can put my original reel back together and I actually did not need it. HELP!!  Can anyone recommend any other upgrades I can do to this beast of a reel since I'm already "ALL IN". I will post the final picture of the beast when I finish it.

LOL

Been there done that

sorry help, well actually I can advice that once you put together the original reel with the OEM parts you can upgrade it with new drags ( 5+1) and maybe change the Sleeve for a SS one, but dont forget to install new gears and a new handle  :o  ::)

This has been known to happen. Now you will be looking a beater at a yard sale to fill out original reel back to working order. Ask me how I know...

I ordered all new parts to use for the missing parts in the new reel. This thing will end up being $500 plus. Oh boy!! I'm crazy.

I know what you mean. This will end up being a wall hanger show piece in a glass case.
