Title: Shimano Bantam 100 vs Bantam 1000 comparison
Post by: Fishgolfman on November 11, 2024, 08:36:52 PM
One of the criticisms of some of the Bantams are plastic side plates. Well the bantam 100 is metal. I thought if it could be exchanged we could solve an issue. Well the handle side plate is not compatible, the spools are not exchangeable, also the bantam 1000 plate is slightly larger.

Also, that's just silver paint over plastic on the palm-side plate.

Yes, the tail plate that we see is for palming comfort and ornamentation only.  All the strength is below in the frame.  When they were new, it was popular to grind down the plastic tail plate to make it fit your hand even better.  For the discriminating palmer.

Does anyone know if there is any handle and star upgrades available for these reels?

Pretty sure an Abu handle and star fits these. I believe they pre-date Shimano going to the modern smaller drive shaft sizes on their small reels.

Check out Japanese reel hot rodding site plus getting japanese manufactured parts for their domestic market. They will work with you on your build as they have bunch of after market parts and info. Baitcasters and spinning.

I like the looks and feel of their early rosewood double grips.
