Title: New Favorite Casting Reel
Post by: Midway Tommy on November 19, 2024, 04:34:05 PM
Never been a huge fan of conventional type casting reels but I came across this little gem the other day and decided to pick it up. It's a cool addition and displayed right along with my spinning reels. 😀

There's one of those on the goodwill site currently. Not in as good of shape. But cult-of-personality enthusiasts, it's probably worthwhile.

Alright Tommy! Looks like a gem.
It seems I remember you disparaging bait casters in past posts? Have you had a chance to look yet at the  internals? Does it sound good when you test the functions externally?
With those old bait casters, I've found there's a kind of a Zen to using them. Short casting and birds nests result from my own frustrations and impatience, i.e., the reel ends-up controlling me, whereas I have to control myself and then make the reel work for ME.
Keta-Lee helped me to see this in an indirect way...

Well the one thing I can say for sure is I could cast one a heck of a lot better 60+ years ago when I was a kid than I can now, and that Anti-Back-Lash feature is pretty much a bogus sales pitch.  ;) Glad it's going into winter, it's going to take an awful lot of practice before this spinner dude will get efficient with one of these things, if ever.  :o  ;D

It catches on two out of three casts! Some say every time!  ^-^
