Rosie had a slot open in september, so i'm going to try to fill it. it will be a 5 day trip, not a 6-day. that means three days of fishing instead of four. there is an option for a half day trip on the day that we fly in, but those afternoon trips in the past have just never worked out well. i also do not have a price yet. as in all other trips, the "charter master's discount is being rolled back into the price of the group, so that all 12 of us will be paying the same amount. so far, it's just me and ted. if anyone else wants to go, please let me know. as soon as i get a price, i will let you all know. thanks! alan

Last time I was there in September, weather was nice, dorado showed up, YT were big and chasing surface iron. Lobster season was on and we bought some that Flor's team prepared for an excellent dinner!

I will be fishing with Cedros Outdoor Adventures. Spoke with Juan at the Expo in Sacramento last week, and it seems like a reputable outfit.
Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
i've been working with rosie and the guys at cedros sportfishing for the last 10 years. the captains will gut and gill our fish, and then pack it in ice. they carry 50 pounds of ice for us. the end product is amazing. it was standard for boats to carry a 5 pound bag of ice in the morning and call it good. not sure what jose of cedros outdoor adventures does, but our guys are good. i have a september trip that i am trying to get off the ground. not sure if it will work. let me know if you are interested. alan

It has been about eight or ten years now, but I did a ton of fishing with of Cedros Outdoors Adventures. Looks like it is still owned By Jose Angel, a marine biologist who was the pioneer of the whole eco-tourism and lodge based sportfishing business on Cedros. Jose was committed to building a model business that would provide good employment with living wages for the staff and an incentive for locals to preserve the ecosystem.
The lodge itself is on the edge of a high bluff ant the edge of town, right next to the water. A really nice place. Back when the long rangers could still fish Cedros, I remember sitting on the deck outside my room watching them fish very close by. Close enough that I could occasionally hear the captain on the loudspeaker.
Back then, the fish handling on the island was not great. The issue was mostly lack of ice. I suspect that that has improved at Cedros Outdoors Adventures as well, but it is worth asking about.
The captains from all the outfitters were tight (it is a small island), and worked together when out on the water as is the custom in small fishing towns in Baja.
Cedros is an amazing island if you like Baja (it is desert, not lush). It is full of endemic species, and the fishing is good. My favorite times there were end of season, when the fishing might not have been the hottest, but the lodge emptied out. While some folk like the whole tequila shots + loud fishing stories experience, I'll take the nice slow steady Baja pace and quiet star filled nights.

Juan was very helpful at the show. That's the main reason we signed up.
We are looking forward to the trip in September, and hope to make Cedros a yearly destination. I will check about the ice situation. He did share that we would be able to return with about 50lbs of fish. Getting more than that on the plane would be over weight. I would be happy to return home with 50lbs of Yellow Tail.
I am with you on having a quiet time after fishing, not a big tequila shot kind of guy. I do enjoy a nice margarita, and the stars at night, then off to bed. lol
You need to upgrade the tiquila you drink, not all are equal and some high $ stuff is adulterated Jose quality crap.

I agree with Lee. I wasnt a fan of tequila, barely tolerated it in margaritas, but a few trips with the Boss, I have become a fan of sipping tequila. So far Casahuin has to be my favorite.
I have found that the quality of the participants is more important than the quality of the tequila. I haven't seen a huge correlation between the two.
Many of the Baja lodge/resort organized groups also do the group long range trips out of San Diego, where drinking a bit too much is part of the plan. I think that this has become part of the culture. Most groups are friendly, just a bit loud and silly. But few of us are the best versions of ourselves when intoxicated, so some groups get a bit unruly.
This posibility is something to be aware of if you are considering a solo or small group trip, and not into joining the "party."

I would like some info on the amount of fish an angler catches vs the amount of fish the angler takes home on the plane.I am spoiled by trip our of S.D. aboard the RP. I have adjusted my expectations to about 70lbs of fish on the plane. We are told that they do a good job with the processing. We use Fisherman's Processing in S.D. and have been mostly happy with their work. Is the fish processing on Cedros equal to the quality of Fisherman's Processing?
The fish processing is very good well trimmed and thick vacuum bags. 50 lbs is what you will get unless others give you some of theirs. That is if everyone packs on the light side: the limit is what the plane can carry.Everyone shares the catch.

You are talking about the Tani group going with Cedros Sportfishing right?
Dyellum is going to a different lodge with a different group.
I would suggest dyellum check with COA to answer any processing and weight limit questions at their operation.
If this veer continues, we might want to make a separate thread on COA to avoid confusion. This thread is for one of the Tani trips with Cedros Sportfishing.

Yep, that was my thought. I lost 100 pounds between trips. They cared les than the FAA! :)
