Title: Penn 109
Post by: Wayne B. on December 31, 2024, 03:42:08 PM
I am trying to swap out a metal spool with a plastic one on two 109's. Both reels bind up with the plastic spool. Are two types of spools interchangeable? Did the spool size change from the 50's to the 60's?

I'm almost certain the spools are meant to be interchangeable. I supspect that your plastic spool is warped a tiny amount.

Maybe loosen the tailplate spool bushing. Also sometimes the worm drive for the levelwind can cause binding of it's not reassembled correctly

Both are ok. I just noticed the binding occurs when the reel is tilted towards the handle side. No binding when tilted toward the tail-plate.

Adjust the bearings.
