Title: 505HS and 506HS Time Line
Post by: Classtime on January 03, 2025, 09:14:54 PM
I just picked up another 505HS because the take apart screw on both my 505 and 506 are not retained in the side plate which bugs me and also both gear sleeves are rounded. The side plates on this new one are different than my others and I wonder if it is earlier or later. My first two came to me with early Tiburon frames and this new one has the sticker on the solid front bar.

Looks like you're a few steel sleeves and 5-stack drag kits away from a few great setups

I hoped the new 505 would have low mileage bits and pieces and that after the A.T. step by step, it would be perfect. Alas, a SS sleeve will soon replace the rounded off brass one. And then...?

Drag washers and SS AR dogs.

Interesting. In the picture with the gear side-plates, the top reel has no mark; 505 or 506. Since the side-plates are interchangeable, you don't need a model #. You would only need the frame and spool identified due to the width difference. A latter version?
Some older, well used "quick-take apart" Penn plates, swell and become difficult to unscrew. On top of that, there's that stupid spring on the screw assembly, both of which can lead to screw damage when disassembling.

What Keta says, plus a stainless steel gear sleeve.

That top reel is my new to me 505 and it and the side plates are smooth on both sides. Tom should have more stainless sleeves in a month or so.
