A while back when I fish very often in the Jetty for speckle trout ,people often use a long salmon steel head to fish here ,I come up making long rod ,similar to crappie rod but heavier action that can lift 2-3 lbs fish easy .I use a 7' graphite composite blank or IM6 blank attack to a graphite golf club .Make the reel seat close to the end on a short handle that allow to stick far out to keep line off the rock .This rod can use for crappie while they're in brush pile close to shore

I have done many things with rods, but have not tried extending it with a golf club, usually with pieces of broken rods. No reason not to if it has the correct profile and and flex.
I would tape the real seat on to the "new" rod and cast with it to find the correct position for the reel seat.

Or maybe use slip rings instead of an actual seat. Then if a different weight/balanced reel is used the reel location can be adjusted. ;)

I just cut the golf shaft to dia. a little smaller than inside dia. of rod blank butt , thickness of rod blank may be thinner or thicker than golf shaft but most of the time they're close .Fenwick made golf shaft before they made graphite rod blank with same technique

I made it more than 10 years ago ,use it quite often and catch lots of fish in jetty until I get sick ,can not walk too far out on jetty .At that time nobody made handle that style ,I made few more that style ,later one I order handle component for better comfort
Hey Quang. Do you remember what golf club shaft you used? I can see how it could be more cost effective and versatile if you can get the pairing right.
By the way, I just finished a book by Barney Farley, the self-proclaimed famous fishing guide in Port Aransas. That's way south of you, but he really gets into the techniques used 70 years ago for the all the popular inshore fish; back when they were plentiful. It's a quick read and you might enjoy it.

No,I don't ,I still have some golf club at home ,bought for $1.00 at most resale shop .I also made few other thing with them like fishing gaff ,light weight and strong .I live in Houston but go to Corpus Christi very often as my daughter live there we went there and to see grandkids also fish there .They're rebuilt Bob hail pier and should be done by next Thanksgiving ,I miss that place .Will get that book
