Title: Daiwa Grandwave Z 20SHW slipping
Post by: tokufishy on February 02, 2025, 06:46:15 AM
getting back to casting game.
grandwave got sharked a while ago, messed w the drive burned up the drags. threshers pull harder than a bass or leopard on light tackle!

got new drags and their slipping. old drags are slipping. the drags slipping at like 2kg vs 7kg.

any pointers or anything ive done laughably wrong?

additionally, i sent it to a popular fellow for service / repair in which he wasn't able to figure it out. in that time he lost part 74 f36-6804 handle metal collar. by grace it's the same washer in a tanacom 500 so i was able to get the part. carbontex drags. aside from this, she's all stock.

just got a 30 in too, wanna use it for light irons, reef fishing etc. freespool on that is worse than the 20 significantly but i think it's just hard use.

thanks in advance for the help!

You could try playing swip-swap with them. Those reels are identical, except for the width of the spool and frames. Same thing with the slosh, as I call them lol, 20/30 reels. Just make sure you keep track of what parts came from which one. No sweat lol!

Meant to offense, Just gotta get the easy stuff out of the way. I'm always surprised how often it is actually the problem.

nah u good man! I thought so too for a sec, maybe the line cut somewhere inside the spool when getting sharked but that wasn't the case.
i also didn't mean to come off offensive  ;D  ;D

I think your drags are out of  order .    Start with cf than key washer cf ear washer cf key washer

dunno why but i didn't put it in order for the pic lol

seems half the problem is it is missing an o ring. now time to find a o ring that fits. looks like 8mm wide ~1mn thickness part 61 f65.7801 o ring.
gotta grease the drags too, light game reel! if i can get 8kg w carbontex up from ~6-7kg stock I'll be happy

I would check to see if the star screws down as far as is required, just add a spacer/washer of sorts to see if that does not fix it.

"any pointers or anything i've done laughably wrong?" that's usually what is wrong >:D .  I do also notice the wear ring on the outer washer and wonder if something is not making proper contact?
