Hey everyone! I have booked the Swifty out of westport for an albacore trip August 15th thru the 17th. Generally weather is better/more reliable in august. The swifty is ran by Capt. Dwight of the Tornado's brother (Capt. Mike) and they work together extensively. Gameplan will be to locate the fish via trolling and then switch over to live bait fishing with anchovies. Trip is limited to 10 people, plenty for a 60 foot boat!
We will meet friday at 6pm and come back sunday at either 6am or 4pm depending on fishing. The boat will provide bait/rods/hooks but not food or bedding. There's a microwave and coffee pot, we usually bring easy-to-reheat stuff (burritos/leftovers, ect). Crew will cut fish on the way home for $4 per fish.
Price is $960 including tip, but not fish cleaning. Please PM/email me to get on the list. Last year we whacked and stacked 'em- 175 real chunkers in a day for 10 guys. Will post a few pictures from last year's trip.
Currently the list:
1) Ryan
2) Ryan's friend Albert
3) Kalifornia Steve
4) Ted
5) Mike McGhee
5 Spots left!
Here are a few pictures from last year's trip I shamelessly stole from others. I am the world's worst picture taker!!
Here's the boats website: https://www.captaincrewcharters.com/boats.php
Still got 5 spots! Let's get together and kill some fish!
Ryan sent you a PM. Bill
Ryan, I've sent you a PM.
Getting close to KILL TIME!
Can't wait to put some flappers on the deck and turn it red.
Ryan said he filled the boat, who else from AT.com is going?
Yellowtails and most other fish are "flappers" to me. Tuna seem to almost vibrate like they're electro-shocked on the deck. Yeah, they seem to have more blood in their bodies than fish from other family's.
We are a go! See everyone at 7pm
Go getum boys !!
Dwights brother Michael is a fish killing machine, and the swifty is a sweet boat, with bigger bunks. Mikey has fish blood running thru his veins, same as his brother Dwight and their dad, who is also still a charter boat Capt
It's going to be a bit "Disco" out there but Damn the Torpedo's!
Hope to have great photos to share!
Steve
PS:
Going to miss you on this one Ted, surprised you aren't going to get away from that Palm Springs heat!

Hit me up when you book and I'll see if I can talk the Boss into it! Sure I can talk Ryan into it tooas well. :d
Well, it's been an adventure to get here, but we're all accounted for.
Weather is not cooperating, lots of rain and wind, but the captain says we'll be leaving at 0200.
Here are some photos I took. Naturally it stopped raining to prove me wrong.

Try again.
Good fishing with everyone! Already looking forward to next year
How was the fishing?
Todd
About 20 fish a guy. Glad to see everyone overcome the motion of the ocean and contribute to the box! Trolling was on fire in the early morning with several doubles/triples and one or two quads. We were able to convert to two really solid bait stops of about 30-40 fish each plus a few others in the 10 fish range. We did have one moment with 8 guys fishing and 8 guys tied to a tuna- that was fun! Things tapered off in the post 4pm hours but we already had done quite a bit of damage. As per usual, I forgot to take pictures
Another great trip with Charter Master Ryan!
I was not optimistic this trip was going to happen because it started raining in Portland and didn't stop until we had all the gear loaded on the boat. Capt. Mike said we're shoving off at 0200 to my surprise.
The ride out was rough, and a few people were already sick. I woke up at 0500 and waited for the gray light to show through the hatch. Once it did I got up and set the trolling rods out. I was putting the 4th rod in it's holder when two rods lit up. Capt. Mike ran back to help me because no one else was up. First 5 minutes and we had two in the box.
The troll was on fire all day and our mid-day bait stops paid off big time as well. It was nonstop till around 4 or so when it just turned off. My arms were Jello anyway, so I didn't mind. I don't know how many fish I handed off to seasick people to get them into the game, but it worked because they were on the rail catching fish and forgot about being sick!
150 total according to the deck hands, I thought it was closer to 200. Still not bad for 9 anglers. Decent grade fish to boot!
Can't wait till next year!
Steve
great Steve, awesome trip
did you take your own reels or the boat have the rods and reels for everyone?

Alijandro,
We used boat equipment which was top notch. Accurate Boss reels and Shimano Tevala rods. It's nice flying up and not driving. I had to pay $170 in baggage fees, but I'll trade that for an hour-15-minute flight every day!
Steve
cool, thats nice equiptment :fish
Looks like it was an awesome trip! Great catching!!!
I want in on next year!

It was a great trip! Steve, I was up when you got up but was in no condition to fish. Thanks for handing me a rod once I finally made it on deck, it helped. The fishermen and crew were a great bunch of people, and Sydney, Aidan and Ed had a great time on their first tuna trip. Hopefully we fish together again. Is Yuwan, Edward, and David on here?
I now have a prescription for the patch to be filled once I cross the line again. What used to be an over the counter medication is no longer available here in Kanada. I tried an organic patch but it's definitely just a placebo.
Thanks Ryan for organizing the trip.
Adam
Adam,
It was nice to meet you and your family! Ed was a kick, very funny guy.
Sydney and I have kept in touch, she sent me some pics of your fish processing, looked very organized.
Hope you and the fam can make it again next year!
Steve
I didn't know they only sold the "real deal" patches south of the border! Hope you can get some relief with the real patch next time. I have only seen 2 people get sick while wearing one.
Yuhang, Albert, and David aren't on here. Albert is an old friend of mine from college who has an insatiable appetite for adventure. David and Yuhang are buddies of his. Despite some issues with the motion of the ocean, they all had a good trip!
Next year will be great!
