Completed a build on this Heavy Duty Super 275 2-Speed Salt Water reel for a friend this afternoon, after Church.
Used 95% new parts.
The weight is 28 ounces, holds 260 yards of 20 lb. Mono, or 350 yards of 15 lb..
Gear Ratios are 1:2.5 in low gear, and 1:4.5 in high gear.
These reels are beasts. Overbuilt and as tough and strong as they come.
Great for Surf Fishing, sight casting from a boat, or Stripers, Sturgeon, King Salmon, Halibut, big catfish, sharks and other large uglies.
This guy will be using it for Stripers in the Northeast and back canals of Massachusetts.
Best, Fred
:) I have 4 of these reels . All I can say is they are beasts . You can pull them in ..
That is a nice looking reel!
Fred,
Your reel looks better than new.
Tad
They just look like monsters too.

Not really. Some digging might yield results.
The regular Super 270 came out in '54 —- and production ran for 8 years with 3 versions. They were around $29 to $30, I think.
Think I had one of these in the box some years ago. Seems like the price tag was in the mid $30's.
This reel came out in '62, and production ran for a few years.

I love mine in surf for stripers. A fellow fisherman asked if it could be converted to right hand retrieve? Good question For Fred the expert!!

In most cases, I would never say something is impossible.
But in this case, it is impossible.
The parts are way too many inside the casing (7) gears, and are operational and specific to a crank on the left side only.
Plus, the very rare business sideplate with its crank & shift lever is only for the left side.
And the A/R shifting is on the right side —- not at the crank assembly.

Hi all!
This is weird because I just got in contact with Fred to get a couple of parts I needed for the 275 I recently purchased on the big auction site for $50. I had been looking for a 270 in good shape to use for river cats in the ole Mississippi River. Saw this and couldn't pass it up.
Here are a few pics I took. All I did was open it up and left the handle and clutch assembly alone, it's in too good of shape to go and screw it up, then took the rest down and cleaned it up. I was able to get the handle side gearing cleaned the best I could and greased it up.
It is extremely smooth and was well taken care of, except for the missing drag knob. Very excited to get the parts from Fred and get it wet, or hopefully not. 😂
Thanks
Jeff
That 275 2-Speed is in very good condition, Jeff!
Parts were mailed at the Post Office today.
Included (3) springs and bumpers, just for spares or maybe another 270 down the road. These parts were discontinued by Quick, and show not available as far back as '64 in my shop manuals. But I have plenty of the bumpers & springs from before then.
Best, Fred

I've lucked out a couple of times on Microlites for under 40 bucks. One time I got a mint, looked unused Microlite for $29 I think at auction none the less.
