Title: Avet HX/R Drive Bearing upgrade
Post by: BR on April 21, 2025, 02:49:24 AM
I'm going deep water giant golden tile fishing with my HX raptor, I'm kinda concerned about the driveshaft bearings failing, what kind of upgraded bearings should I put in this reel?
Thank you
Brian

The  stock Avet drive shaft bearings (item 50 and 55) seldom fail, the problem bearing is the pinion bearing.

I replaced the pinion bearing in my HX Raptor. Only bearing in any of my Avets that needed replacement. I got it used.

My Sx/R failed after the same trip last year, 25lb line, just figuring the bearings are the same in both reels, I might just spool up the ex30

The HX has larger bearings and will do the job, the heavier EX 30 will do it better.  I have friends that have landed 150# plus BFT on HX Raptors.  I use my HX Raptor to fish for Pacific halibut in depths over 700'.
