I purchased a DQ 221 on the big auction site for what I thought was a great price. Could not tell from photos that there was a hunk out of the front lip of the spool. I have not seen a spool available. Are there any substitutes for it. I really want to use this reel, seems like a nice one with the faster gearing. Beware of good deals I guess 🤔

The 221/220 spools are identical. Plus, a 238 spool can also be subbed.
Here is a nearly new 238 spool, $18.
And a new 220 complete spool with all parts, just snap it on, for
$28.
