Title: Resitex Drag Washers: Wet or Dry?
Post by: akroper on May 14, 2025, 11:04:00 PM
I recall reading somewhere on this site that DQ Resitex drags were meant to be used dry.  Is that a hard and fast rule?  Is using grease an option at all?  Are there any advantages or drawbacks to either dry or wet?
I understand that carbon fiber drags benefit greatly from grease.  What about felt, leather, nylon, teflon or any other drag material?  I have been greasing all drag stacks with Cal's grease, but I'm beginning to question this practice.  I would appreciate any wisdom from the Ohana collective mind.

The Resistex washers should be only used dry.

CF, leather, felt —- will benefit from being LIGHTLY greased with Cal's.

Greasing hard Resistex drag discs is like greasing your disc brakes on a vehicle —- it will eventually slow down or stop —- but maybe not before you rear-end the car ahead of you.

Resistex drag washers are very long lasting and effective.

You can cut your own CF's —- and lightly grease them —- and play around with the drag stack height —- and get some good results.

Best, Fred

Thank you for the reply, Mr. Oakes.  Looks like I have about 15 DQ spools to disassemble, remove the grease from the drag stacks, and reassemble.  It's a labor of love, though.  I am thoroughly enamored of the DQ reels.
