Title: PENN 113H - External Drag
Post by: Bill W NC on May 29, 2025, 12:36:23 AM
I am new to the board and have been searching but not the search wizard I had hoped to be on finding an answer to my question.  I have been watching the board but until recently was content to just hang on the sideline

Rebuilding two PENN 113H reels and I am trying to find Penn Part Number 140-113 the felt washer under external drag cap.  I am suspecting that this is probably a common problem, anyone know where I can find two or if someone is making them where to get the supplies and specs

Thanks in advance
Bill

Bill - Welcome to the forum!  That which you seek is pretty much made of "unobtanium" unless you find someone that has them squirreled away.  The good news is that they really are not necessary; especially if you have upgraded the drag stacks to modern Carbon Fiber (a five stack is perfect).  You "could" make your own, but the purpose of the original was mostly to attempt to mitigate some water intrusion (it would never totally prevent it) and with some of the modifications that you will find in other posts; you will find you can get by fine without them.  I have a small squadron of External Drag models, (don't ask!) but let us know a little more about your end goal and many will chime in. - john

Bill, are you NC? These are easy enough- it's an oil seal; just get some felt from Wally or Michaels or wherever and cut one to size, grease the snot out of it, and go.

For us mere mortals, yes!  And you kind of illustrate it - the only ones out there are ones that folks happen to already have.  I seem to recall there was someone at one point that making a type of rubber aftermarket O-ring type deal? -john

All, thanks I appreciate the help.  Intent is to put new replacement drag stack HT-100 in and clean up years of garage grime and then back in service

Thorhammer - Yes North East North Carolina just above EC

I guess as my wife would say create a need! now I need oversized punch cutter kit.  Anyone with the hoard of felt washers can you provide us with the "unobtanium condition" with dimensions and thickness
